The IMAX "Cosmic Voyage" film was made as a public service with sponsorship by the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. On DVD, borrowed from my local public library, it plays at just over 30 minutes with Morgan Freeman supplying a pleasing narrative. As one would expect from an IMAX film, the image quality is superb and the Dolby 5.1 sound track is very well done. Simulated cosmic explosions shake your walls! That is, if you have a good powered subwoofer in your system. The film takes a very useful approach to examining the size of the universe, from tiny sub-atomic particles to the vastness of the whole universe. (Fortunately, when God created the Universe he had dispatched a few angels with video cameras at different vantage points so we get to see actual footage from several billion years ago.) The film starts in Venice, where the discovery of the telescope originated, and uses a one-meter hoop as a reference point, then gradually goes larger by powers of 10, e.g. 10 meters, 100, 1000, etc until we can see the whole universe. Then it takes the opposite journey, going smaller by powers of 10 until be see inside sub-atomic particles. The story is well-woven with beautiful effects created especially for this film. It is entertaining and educational at the same time. All of "oldsters" can enjoy it for the scientific history we are already familiar with, and all the "youngsters" can enjoy it for the educational supplement it provides. Overall a masterful film. Any numerical "rating" of "Cosmic Voyage" is meaningless. If one is looking for a superb film about our universe and modern theories of its formation, this one is hard to beat. A bord du train corail "Maine Océan", se croisent une charmante danseuse brésilienne non francophone, une avocate cafouilleuse et sympathique parlant trois mots de brésilien et deux contrôleurs SNCF très à cheval sur le compostage des billets mais pas vraiment à même de s'exprimer en anglais... Au terme laborieux du contrôle des billets, le contact s'établit entre les protagonistes. Tentés par l'idée de mettre entre parenthèses leur vie de grisaille pour quelques jours, les deux fonctionnaires rejoignent les belles qui ont embarqué pour l'île d'Yeu à la suite d'un marin-pêcheur ombrageux que l'avocate est venue défendre (fort mal) à l'occasion d'un procès pour coups et blessures. Une fois sur l'île, les désirs et les rêves trop longtemps refoulés du contrôleur interprété par Bernard Menez se réveillent, s'emballent même, aidés par les vapeurs d'alcool et, surtout, par les promesses fallacieuses qu'un producteur d'artistes de variétés fantasque lui fait miroiter... Le retour sur terre sera brutal puis laborieux, littéralement.

American Charlotte Dobler is a master chocolatier in Vienna, she having taken over historic Dobler Chocolates from her now deceased grandmother. She is facing an eviction of sorts from that historic site in a buyout from Danube Developments who has a redevelopment project under works. Charlotte is the only property owner holdout in not selling in honor of that history. In an appeal to city hall, Charlotte can't prove her stance that it is eligible to be designated a protected historical landmark, i.e. a building at least one hundred years old, as she only has the stories told to her by her grandmother, with records of such seemingly all destroyed during the war. Danube's assertion is that the site was probably redeveloped postwar. Charlotte's fallback is preparing for the annual Vienna Chocolatier of the Year competition, she one of the three finalists. She figures winning such would bring profile to her and the shop, Danube who would not dare to be seen as the bad guy in placing pressure on the winner to vacate against her will. In a worse case scenario, Charlotte believes she may have to move back to the States and revert back to her former law career. Through this process, she meets Henry Broadbent, the new CEO of what was his father's development business, Eurostar, and a philanthropist. As a bond forms between the two, Henry learns that the company placing pressure on her to sell is Danube. The issue is that Henry's father, Gordon Broadbent, in one of his last acts as Eurostar CEO, acquired Danube specifically because of this redevelopment on the Dobler site. Henry has to decide what to do as Eurostar CEO while wanting to continue that burgeoning romantic relationship with Charlotte.
